Two Manipur insurgents nabbed with arms and ammunition in Imphal East and Bishnupur dist.

Two active underground cadres were nabbed with arms and ammunition during two separate counter-insurgency operations launched by security forces in Manipur, police sources said on Saturday. One of the nabbed cadres belonged to the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) while the other Kanglei Yoel Kanna Lup (KYKL), the police sources further said.

The active UNLF cadre was nabbed during a counter-insurgency operation launched by a combined force of Imphal East police commandos and troops of 30 Assam Rifles under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district.

Police claimed that a .38 pistol with a magazine loaded with five live rounds was recovered from his possession.

The police identified the UNLF cadre as H Ranjit (45). He is a trained cadre of the UNLF, the police added.

The police also said that the counter-insurgency operation was launched by a combined force today morning, based on specific information.

During the house-to-house search in the village, the security force picked up a suspected person and during spot interrogation, he identified himself to be a cadre of the rebel group, the police added.

Regarding the KYKL cadre,  he was nabbed by a combined force of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 31 Assam Rifles during a search operation under Kumbi police station of Bishnupur district on November 26, police said.

The cadre was identified as Kh Nanao (32). He served as self style 2nd lieutenant in the outfit, the police claimed.

A 9 mm pistol with a magazine loaded with three live rounds recovered from his possession, the police furthrer claimed.

The cadre was nabbed during an operation launched by the combined force in the area based on specific information regarding movement of some armed cadres in the area with an intention to carry out prejudicial activities there, the police also said.

The nabbed cadre was later handed over to Kumbi police station along with the recovered arm and ammunition, the police added.
