Finally, People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) have merged on Tuesday. Both the parties have christened the new party as People’s Conference Party (PCP).

The formal merger agreement was done at the MPC office.
On September 20, Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) and People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) had resolved to merge. The former was a 45 years old party while the latter was a corruption watchdog which became a political party not long ago.

Leaders of both the parties had held several rounds of meetings and agreed to merge.
MPC was formed in 1975 by former Mizoram chief minister Brigadier T. Sailo. It was a party converted from the Human Rights Committee. The earliest name of the party was People’s Conference.
Meanwhile, on occasion of inking the merger agreement on Tuesday, MPC president Lalhmangaiha Sailo was unanimously named as the president of the new party while PRISM president Vanlalruat was named senior vice president in a special portfolio arrangement.

Lalhmangaiha Sailo expressed happiness over the development. He said PCP will try its best to serve the state and fulfill the aspirations of the people. Sailo then appealed to the people to understand the policies of any political party before casting their votes during elections.
