Ukhrul: The Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) in the interest of the journalist and public said it has amicably resolved to “forgive and forget” the unfortunate incident that took place at 24 Assam Rifles COB, Ramva Check Post on September 25, whereby a journalist was harassed.

The journalist harassed by a subedar of the 24 AR is the correspondent of Ukhrul Times, ISTV Imphal and The Frontier Manipur.
“During the meeting, Col. Deeptodeep Mehta… expressed deep regrets to the UDWJA members over the unfortunate incident, on behalf of his subordinate officer subedar Kamla Pati Joshi in the presence of Col. Manoj Shinde, commandant of 35 AR, Somsai Battalion and leaders from Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL),” the statement said.

Further, UDWJA statement said that “Col. Deeptodeep Mehta admitted the misdeed of his jawans mending the check post that day…, while assuring no such incident will happen in the future by Commandant of 24 AR, Shangshak Battalion.”
Based upon the assurance, and as a goodwill gesture, the UDWJA said it decided to revoke the boycott against 24 Assam Rifles, Shangshak Battalion.

Furthermore, UDWJA stated it profoundly appreciate the cooperation and support extended by Manipur Hill Journalists Union (MHJU), All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU), Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long.
