IMPHAL, JUNE 12: Two days after the recovery of the mortal remains of the six Naga hostages, the United Naga Council (UNC), the apex Naga body in Manipur state, has petitioned Union Home minister Amit Shah and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand demanding the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with all Kuki militant groups.

The UNC also demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of all Kuki National Front – President group (KNF-P) personnel “involved in the abduction of 18 Naga civilians including two pastors on May 13, 2026 at Leilon Vaiphei village and the subsequent cold blooded murder of six of them”. The UNC also demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of KNF-P personnel “involved in the murder of Wilson Thanga Chiru at Joujangtek on May 13”. The UNC further demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of Lalboi Vaiphei, Chief of Leilon Vaiphei village, along with other Leilon Vaiphei villagers including women members “who were involved in the abduction and murder of the Naga civilians”. The UNC petition to the Union Home minister and the Manipur Chief Minister demanded declaration of Kuki National Front-President Group (KNF-P) as a terrorist organization. It also demanded immediate removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the position of Deputy Chief Minister,

Manipur, the wife of Semtinthang @ Thangboi Kipgen, president of KNF-P, a Kuki militant group “who is complicit in the murder of the Naga civilians mentioned above”. The UNC said Nemcha’s continuation in office will amount to willful compromise of the integrity of internal security concerns of both the state and the nation at large.

“Your prompt and decisive action on the above will go a long way to restore the people’s trust and confidence in the Union government”, the Naga body added.

The UNC petition then stated, “It has since been decided that the mortal remains of the 6 Naga hostages will not be received until and unless the following charter of demands are addressed and justice is done for the families of the murdered hostages by the Government of India”.

The UNC petition to the Union Home minister and the Manipur Chief Minister said it submitted the charter of demands “for prompt addressal and delivery of justice to 6 Naga hostages murdered in cold blood by KNF(P) militants”.

The UNC petition said, “After the Naga village guards released the 14 Kuki detainees in the evening of June 9, 2026, the prayerful expectation of the Naga people that the humane action would be reciprocated by the Kukis was harshly negated on the evening of June 10, 2026, by the information that the 6 innocent Naga civilians taken hostage on May 13, 2026, by the Leilon Vaiphei villagers and the KNF(P) militants had been recovered not only as lifeless human remains but also in highly mutilated and dismembered conditions”.

The UNC said this tragedy has caused immense pain to the families and to the Naga people at large. The Naga body further said the incident has shaken the faith of citizens in the government’s ability to ensure the safety and security of innocent civilians. “We consider this as a direct challenge to the collective identity and security of Naga people”, it added.
