UNLF (P) Gen Secy urges all communities to come together in building Manipur

Imphal: The United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Kh Pambei faction, general secretary Ch Thanil said the Meitei Christians should continue to participate in the unity of Manipur with a strong heart. The UNLF faction recently signed peace talks with the Centre and Government of Manipur.

Ch Thanil was speaking as the chief guest at the 129 Birth Anniversary of the first Meitei Christian, Angom Porom Singh of Phayeng, in a Meitei Christian Unity Day celebration held at Tangkhul Baptist Church in Chingmeirong organised by Meitei Christian Churches Council, Manipur (MCCCM) on Wednesday.

He said, “We should love each other as the Scripture teaches all of us. Majority community should respect small community and the small communities should reciprocate in similar manner.”

Chabungbam Thanil also said that Manipur is like a mini country with around 35 community living together since many years ago. He urged for all the communities to come together and build a better Manipur for a better future.

The Meitei Christian Unity Day celebration was joined by the family of Manipur’s first Meitei Christian, Angom Porom Singh. They were presented with shawl from Meitei Christian Churches Council as a token of love.

Reverend O Kumar, president of the MCCCM, Reverend Simon Raomei, president of All Manipur Christian Organisation, Reverend Dr H Rakhon, chief advisor of MCCCM, pastors, senior citizens and members of the Tongan Tongan churches attended the celebration.

It may be mentioned that around 600 cadres of UNLF, led by Kh Pambei, Manipur’s oldest armed insurgent group, including their acting chairman, general secretary signed a peace pact with the Centre and State Government in New Delhi on November 29, 2023 followed by a warm reception ceremony held at the Kangla Fort in Imphal on December 2, 2023.
