CHURACHANDPUR: A 24-year-old man from L. Phainom village in Churachandpur district was rescued by the medical team of 2 JAK LI (2nd Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry) on Wednesday after suffering a severe hypersensitivity reaction, anaphylaxis and angioedema following an animal bite.
According to reports, the victim identified as Voineo was allegedly bitten by a suspected slow loris at around 9:45 PM. The victim reportedly developed severe dizziness, lethargy vomiting, generalized swelling of the face and body, intense abdominal pain, and difficulty in breathing.
Upon receiving information from villagers, the medical quick reaction team (QRT) of 2 JAK LI immediately rushed to the spot and initiated emergency treatment.
The patient was promptly stabilised with emergency medications. Officials stated that the patient responded positively to the treatment, with the swelling gradually subsiding and his overall condition improving. He is currently reported to be in stable condition. Following initial stabilisation, the patient was referred to District Hospital Churachandpur for further treatment and monitoring.

The slow loris is an endangered species native to Manipur and is the only venomous primate in the world, capable of delivering a potentially fatal bite. In this incident, the villagers allegedly killed the animal in self-defense, unaware that the species is protected and endangered.
Officials have urged the public to spread awareness regarding the slow loris and stressed the need for proper identification and preventive measures. They further appealed to local villagers to remain vigilant and immediately report any similar cases or sightings to the authorities.
