“Is it real love? The kind of love that makes you feel that intangible joy in the pit of your stomach like a bucket of nerve and acid running around, making you hurt and happy all over…”

Magnolia, is a 1999 American psychological drama film directed by Paul Anderson. Paul is famous for his realistic cinematography and wrote the Oscar nominated script in a mere two weeks.

“Magnolia” introduced me to the director, Paul Anderson’s epic work, I was so overwhelmed and content like it was the movie I have been needing to watch. I sincerely believe it is one movie we all need to watch once in a lifetime. While I’ve watched the movie at least thrice, I will not hesitate to watch it again given enough time as the movie runs a duration of over 3hrs but feels like it ended too soon.

The film is definitely one of Tom Cruise’s best movie for which he also won the best supporting actor at the 72nd academy award. The movie involves complex characters and every character in the movie leaves you contemplating on your own character as a person.

Though it’s hard to grasp the moral of the movie or even understand the plots in the beginning, it makes you feel attached and engrossed gradually, with almost every line and character being so realistically relatable.

“We may be through with the past but the past ain’t through with us..”
“I really do have love to give, I just don’t know where to put it”

The film is all about searching for love, forgiveness, peace and healing.
Overall, Magnolia is an absolute thought provoking, beautiful ensemble of characters with incredible performances from its leads, brilliant script and altogether, extraordinary.

Those watching the movie closely, will see Exodus 8:2 cropping up now and then.
