Ukhrul, Mar 3: The Association of Meiteis in the Americas (AMA) has welcomed the initiatives of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and called for complete disarmament to restore lasting peace in Manipur.

Welcoming the proactive measures announced by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the recent security review meeting on Manipur, the AMA stated that the government’s commitment to ensuring free movement on all roads including National Highways, taking strict action against extortion, expediting border fencing work, and dismantling the drug trade network is a significant step toward bringing normalcy and stability in Manipur.

“We strongly support these measures and urge the government to go further by implementing complete disarmament for a gun-free Manipur. The presence of illegal arms has fueled violence, disrupted harmony, and hindered the path to progress. Disarming all armed groups regardless of affiliation, is essential in rebuilding the trust, restoring law and order, and making Manipur great again,” the association said.

Further, it stated that ensuring a peaceful and secure Manipur requires decisive action, and AMA stands in solidarity with all efforts to achieve this goal.

The people of Manipur deserve to live without fear, and we believe that a comprehensive disarmament strategy, along with the initiatives announced, will pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity, it said. It also urged the Government of India to ensure swift implementation of these measures and called upon all stakeholders to support efforts toward a stable and prosperous Manipur.
