SHILLONG: Khyndai Lad was illuminated in hues of yellow and orange on Saturday as hundreds gathered holding candles and paying their respects to six Naga civilians murdered in Manipur.
Organised by the Naga Elders Forum Shillong (NEFS), the Candlelight Vigil Service intended to honour the memory of the departed, express solidarity to the bereaved families and offer prayers for peace.
“The silence, the pain that our Naga people are going through is expressed today here. We have all come here to express that we are with the families. We are here today to grief and also condemn the killing of these innocent victims,” Lhouvirielle Usou, President of NEFS stated.
The NEFS through its memorandum has appealed to the Government of India, Union Home Minister and Chief Minister of Manipur through the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to take immediate steps in restoring peace and normalcy in the affected areas of Manipur. It also seeks for swift and impartial justice to the bereaved families by bringing all perpetrators and accomplices to account under the due process of law.
