COCOMI Intensifies Stir, Several Key Offices Sealed

Ukhrul, November 28, 2024: Intensifying the stir on the second day of its two-day shutdown protest, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur’s Integrity (COCOMI) has sealed several state and central government offices including the excise, post, SDC, and forest.

The shutdown is called for the repeal of the recently reimposed Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in areas under six police stations and to address unresolved issues related to the Jiribam killings.

Earlier, the COCOMI supporters had on the first day of its agitation, shut down other essential government facilities including the Transport Department, Old and New Secretariat, Relief and Disaster Management offices in Babupara, Imphal West, and the Forest Department at Sanjenthong.

Additionally, the supporters further sent home Government employees and staged a sit-in at the Old Secretariat gate. A scuffle also broke out when the police tried to prevent the entry of the protesters. Senior police officials, including the SPs of Imphal West and Imphal East, later intervened to ease the tension.

In Imphal East District, COCOMI Student Front members locked down offices at the Porompat DC Complex.
