Covid-19: Recovery rate in Shillong CAPF Composite Hospital outperforms national levels

UT News Service | Shillong, Aug 14: The recovery rate in Shillong’s Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Composite Hospital is significantly higher than that of the national level, with more than 85 per cent of patients have recovered thus far.

Members of the paramilitary CAPF in Assam Rifles and Border Security Force (BSF) and the armed forces have accounted for hundreds of cases of the coronavirus and the Composite Hospital has admitted over 400 patients of which 361 have recovered, which has been confirmed only after they return two consecutive negative tests for the virus, a press release from the BSF said on Friday.

Back in March, when the pandemic started to take hold nationwide, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Meghalaya government had declared the Composite Hospital to be a dedicated Covid health centre and 30 beds out of the 50 available were set aside to treat Covid-19 patients but the hospital’s capacity was later expanded as the caseload increased.

“Recovered BSF troops and their families have come forwards and more than 200 such recovered patients have expressed their willingness to donate plasma for the treatment of severe cases of Covid-19,” the press release added, referring to experimental plasma therapy.
