Imphal: Left parties – AIFB, CPI, CPI(M) and RSP – on Monday asked whether the Central security forces were sent by the Centre to Manipur in the wake of wave of violence meant for the protection of Kuki militants.
The four parties observed “National Solidarity Day on Peace in Manipur” today to mark the completion of two months since the violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 last.

Leaders of the four Left parties attended the observance held at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, former secretary of Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council L Sotinkumar slammed the BJP government at the Centre while asking whether the Central security forces were sent to the state for the protection of the Kuki militants indulging in attacking the villages in the periphery of the valley districts.
He alleged that inability to control the law and order situation by the state government timely was behind the escalation of the violence that erupted on May 3 last.
Even after the outbreak of the violence, the governments at the Centre as well as in the state did not try to control it.
The silence on the part of the governments happened to add fuel in the burning fire. The crisis has now become a national issue, he said.
“The Centre has sent around 50,000 Central security forces to control the violence and maintain the law and order. However, they happened to be sent in the state to protect the Kuki militants, who are behind the violence unfolding in the state”, he alleged.
“If the Central forces happen to discharge their duties with the purpose, then it will not be possible for the Kuki militants to continue their attacks to the villages in the fringe of hill-valleys and arson of houses”, he also said.

He alleged that militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) truce violated the ground rules of the truce and were involved in the attacks on Meitei villages in the fringes of the valley.
“Foreign militants infiltrated into the state were also helping the Kuki militants in the attacks”, he further alleged.
“These foreign militants imported truck loads of arms and ammunition across the border and supplied them to the local militants,” the Left party leader added.

Another reason for escalation of the violence is due to the inefficiency of chief minister N Biren Singh, he said.
The CPI leader further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his stoic silence over the violence that claimed lives of more than 130 people and injured over 450 besides displacing and rendering homeless to thousands after their houses were torched.
“Why the Prime Minister remain silent even after two months of violence in the state? Is there any hidden agenda behind the wave of violence in the state”” he asked.
