Firing reported in Kangpokpi’s Haraothel Village: Manipur Violence

Kangpokpi: The Indian Army has reported of unprovoked firing by armed rioters towards Haraothel village under Kangpokpi District with started at 5:30 am on Thursday.

The security forces which was immediately mobilised were fired upon by the armed rioters on the way to the firing site Haraothel village. “Own troops deployed in the area immediately mobilised to prevent escalation of situation. While enroute to the site, own columns drew effective fire from armed rioters,” Indian Army said.

According to the Indian Army, “troops responded in a calibrated manner to prevent any collateral damage. Swift action by troops resulted in cessation of firing. Additional columns moved to the area.”

The Army further said “Unconfirmed reports indicate some casualties. Build up of large crowds in the area also reported. Situation being closely monitored and further details will follow.”

It may be mentioned, that the state Police and Central Forces have been continuously conducting patrolling, flag marches and cordon and search operations in vulnerable areas both in the hill and valley districts.

More than 1110 arms, 13,941 ammunitions and 250 bombs of different kinds have been recovered till date, according to official report.

According to Police Control Room, about 122 Nakas/ Checkpoints are installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police has detained 278 persons in connection with curfew violations in different districts of the State. The checking at the nakas/checkpoints are intensified round the clock in order to prevent unwanted incidents.
