Five arrested in Delhi for harassing NE Women in Huaz Khas Village

In connection with media reports of an alleged incident of racial discrimination and sexual harassment against a group of North Easter women from Darjeeling in Huaz Khas village area on July 18, five accused have been arrested by Delhi Police. All five are said to be from Madhya Pradesh and had gone to visit Vaishno Devi shrine with a pit stop in Delhi. Since their train was in the wee hours, they decided to go clubbing and harassed the women.

The accused were identified as Dinesh Ram (34), a resident of Jhansi in UP; Ashish Shivhare (39), Vikas Shivhare (38), Naveen Shivhare (41) and Ankit Shivhare (29), all residents of Chattarpur in Madhya Pradesh, they said.

A notice in regard to the incident was issued by Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women. The notice had instructed Deputy Commissioner of police, South Delhi jurisdiction to provide information to the Commission such as FIR registered in the matter, details of accused identified, steps taken to arrest the accused – in case of non-arrest, details of action report in the matter. South Delhi police have reportedly filed an FIR under Section 509 of the IPC against the five accused.
