Heavy Gunfight Erupts Between Manipur Insurgent Groups and KNA-B Near Indo-Myanmar Border

Imphal, Jan 28: Heavy gunfight between various insurgent groups of Manipur and Kuki National Army-Burma, or KNA-B continued near the Indo-Myanmar border, Imphal-based media houses reported today.  

The gunfight between the two sides began on Monday morning wherein some cadres of the KNA-B were killed and an unspecified number of them were wounded,  the media reports said citing sources.

Several cadres of Manipur insurgent outfits were also wounded in the gunfight that started around 2:30 am and continued till 6 am, the media reports mentioned. 

The heavy exchange of fire took place close to Border Pillar Number 87 located at the Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district, the reports further said.

A total of 14 firearms belonging to KNA-B were also recovered by the Manipur insurgents from the site, the media reports further mentioned.

As per the media reports, the gunfight ensued following KNA-B cadres launched heavy attack on the camp of Manipur insurgents located in the border area.

On Tuesday, the two sides resumed gunfire exchange in the border area following a brief pause, sources said.
