In the latest development, the UNC and the Government of Manipur, following the emergency meeting, agreed to extend the earlier 6:00 PM deadline till 2:00 PM on May 16, 2026. Per a statement issued by the UNC Media Cell, the extension was granted at the request of the State Government to enable authorities to verify and establish the status of the people being held hostage and facilitate their eventual safe release.

The UNC stated that the decision came after both sides presented their positions and views during the meeting convened in response to the UNC ultimatum submitted to the Government of Manipur on May 14.
