SENAPATI: A meeting on the issue of abducted civilians was held between the United Naga Council (UNC), Senapati district CSOs, and officials from the Home Department, Government of Manipur. The department was represented by Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, IPS (ADGP). The discussion, which lasted for over an hour, took place at the DC Conference Hall in Senapati.
During the meeting, the Home Department assured that the status of the six abducted Naga men would be ascertained by the following day. The assurance came after strong demands from civil society organisations seeking clarity on the condition and whereabouts of the abductees.
In the latest development, the UNC and the Government of Manipur, following the emergency meeting, agreed to extend the earlier 6:00 PM deadline till 2:00 PM on May 16, 2026. Per a statement issued by the UNC Media Cell, the extension was granted at the request of the State Government to enable authorities to verify and establish the status of the people being held hostage and facilitate their eventual safe release.
The UNC stated that the decision came after both sides presented their positions and views during the meeting convened in response to the UNC ultimatum submitted to the Government of Manipur on May 14.
