UKHRUL: Report of an alleged illegal taxation by suspected Kuki groups at National Highway-202 in Ukhrul District has surfaced, adding another layer to the already chocked Imphal to Ukhrul road.

According to a digital receipt allegedly from taxation, these suspected Kuki groups, along with villagers from Mongkot Chephu, have allegedly collected taxes via a Google Pay account linked to the number 9XXX34X190 under the name of one Khaikeng Haokip. The Google Pay receipt indicates a transaction of Rs. 5,000, with Khaiminsei Haokip listed as the recipient and the UPI ID as khaikengxxx@oksxxx. Additionally, the contact number 76XXX8X750 was provided.
Upon verification by Ukhrul Times, Khaikeng Haokip, a resident of Zalengbung village in Ukhrul District, confirmed that the numbers associated with the transactions are indeed his. However, he stated that the Airtel number 9XXX34X190, which is linked to the Google Pay account, is currently with a friend who serves as a village volunteer. Khaikeng Haokip further clarified that he does not have a Google Pay account and has no knowledge of the reported transactions.
In a related development, sources have reported that trucks traveling from Mahadev to New Haven along NH-202, accompanied by escorts, have been blocked at Shangkai by Kuki armed groups.
It may be added that the very spot have been reportedly used to tax and extord commuters along the NH-202 on many occasions in the past few months.
