JD(U) withdraws support to BJP-led government in Manipur

Imphal: Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Manipur state unit, which its MLA strength recently reduced to one withdrew its support to the BJP-led government in the state today.

The JD(U) state unit president today intimated its decision of withdrawal of support to the BJP-led government to the Governor of Manipur.

The intimation stated, “Keeping the political development at the national level in view, where JD-U left NDA, it has been decided by the JD-U, Manipur State unit, to withdraw the support extended to the BJP-led government in Manipur with immediate effect.”

The JD(U) was extending its outside support to the BJP-led government in the state after the elections to the state Assembly.

Later, addressing the media, JD(U) state unit president Ksh Biren Singh said that the state unit of the party took the decision to withdraw the support in a party meeting held on September 10.

He said that the decision was taken in line with the JD(U) at the national level leaving the BJP-led NDA. The formal intimation was submitted to the Governor after necessary clearance from the JD(U) national executive.

The JD(U) Manipur unit had extended support to the BJP-led government in the state as a partner of the NDA, he added.

The letter of intimation was directly handed over to the Governor after an appointment today and the Governor also acknowledged the same.

Mention may be made here that the strength of the JD(U) in the state Assembly was reduced to one MLA after five of them quit the party to join the BJP recently.
