Senapati: A joint survey of Senapati-Phaibung Road was conducted by a team of PWD officials, District Administration officials, BRTF, and Senapati-Phaibung road committee members on Tuesday. The survey was led by Committee President N. Benjamin Tao and his colleagues along with Mathew, EE, PWD- Senapati Division, SDC Neli and Tripathi AE, BRTF/84 RCC.

According to Committee members, the said road was sanctioned in 2001 under the Prime Minister’s special package and was undertaken by the 25 BRTF as a work Agency in 2002. Unfortunately, the road with a length of 128 km could not be completed even after 21 years and the present existing Road condition of the SP Road which connects 18 villages in total is in a very pathetic condition.

The Road starts from TNK Senapati at DHQ and is a vital connectivity for many villages located till Phaibung village under the Phaibung sub-division.

The survey comes against the backdrop of repeated protests and reminders by the Villagers headed by the SP road committee to repair and complete the much neglected otherwise highly dependent road.

During the joint survey, the team were warmly received by different village leaders including the Headman & Village Authority. In the course of interaction with the village leaders, they expressed their grievances & resentment for gross negligence and step-motherly attitude towards the development of S.P. Road.

The villagers strongly urged and appealed to the concerned authorities to initiate the speedy completion of the road positively. However, the BRTF officials blamed the Government of Manipur for its failure to pay the state share of 10%.

Nevertheless, the villagers requested, that the BRTF/84 RCC not be withdrawn until the road construction works are completed and agreed upon in MoU.

The villagers also appealed to the Manipur Government to release the pending 10% of the State share towards the construction of S P Road at the earliest in the interest of those remote villages.
