SENAPATI: More than a thousand women gathered in Senapati district to stage a sit-in protest organised by the Senapati District Women Association under the aegis of the Naga Women Union, demanding the immediate and safe release of six Naga hostages.
The protestors raised two key demands: the unconditional release of the hostages and the immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals, militant groups, and abettors involved in the incident at Leilon Veiphai village.

Voicing strong condemnation, the demonstrators held placards and raised slogans such as, “Justice is not a negotiation, the innocent must walk free,” “Secure the civilians,” and “Truth shall prevail over propaganda”etc. They also alleged violations of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, asserting that civilians continue to suffer amid ongoing tensions.
As part of the protest, shops across Senapati town remained closed and vehicular movement was temporarily halted.
Leaders of the women’s bodies described the incident as deeply distressing and called on the state government to act swiftly to ensure justice and restore public confidence.

A memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh of Manipur was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district, urging immediate intervention and concrete action.
The protest concluded peacefully, with organisers warning that further agitation may follow if their demands are not met promptly.
