CHANDEL: Hundreds of Naga women of Chandel on Wednesday held a sit-in-protest at the district headquarters demanding the immediate release of six (6) hostages reportedly held by Kuki militants since May 13, 2026 while also demanding justice for (L) Wilson Thanga Chiru, who was killed on the same day.
Organised by Naga Women Union, Chandel following the call of Naga Women’s Union, the apex body of all Naga women, the sit-in-protest saw representatives from all 9 (Nine) Naga tribes of Chandel under the NWUC. They are Anal, Monsang, Moyon, Maring, Lamkang, Chothe, Khoibu and Tarao.

Led by Tonila Pashel, vice president of Anal Sinnu Ruwl, the demonstrators shouted slogans demanding the immediate release of the six while also demanding justice for (L) Wilson Thanga Chiru.
Addressing the sit-in, Tonila Pashel said the six innocent Naga civilians were abducted on May 13, 2026 and that Wilson Thanga Chiru was also killed on the same day. She said that no one knows the fate of the six Naga civilians and hence the call for their safe and immediate release.

“This demonstration is to express our unhappiness over the incident. Therefore , we the Naga women of Chandel have gathered here to appeal for their release. That they are given a chance to meet with their families again. We are a peace-loving people and do not want war. Hence, we appeal for peace too,” Tonila Pashel said.
Ng. Lucy Monsang, Speaker, Naga Women Union, Chandel expressed her gratitude and thanked every Naga women of Chandel for their support. She said it was vital that every women came out and demand the release of the six Naga civilians and justice for (L) Wilson Thanga Chiru.
