UKHRUL: A one-day workshop on Natural Farming was held on Thursday at the Oasis College Campus, Ward No. 9, Kangpokpi. The Sadar Hills Green Movement jointly organized the event in collaboration with Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS) and the Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (APCNF).
The program was conducted in partnership with Oasis College, Ka-Inn Neocha, THRIVE, InSIDE North East, and Khankho Integrated Rural Development Society (KiRUDES).

During the introductory address, Gautam Mukhopadhaya emphasized the importance of aligning the Green Movement with natural farming practices. He stated that chemical-free farming is crucial for both human health and environmental sustainability, adding, “Nature gives back more when nurtured.” Mukhopadhaya also highlighted the need to promote local products, such as fermented beans, through branding and agro-based enterprises to access wider markets.
V. Krishna Rao, NRO, led the first technical session, followed by Mogal Humayun, Thematic Lead from RySS, Andhra Pradesh. They introduced the concept of Natural Farming based on APCNF, explaining that it is grounded in emerging scientific principles of soil microbiology and ecological nutrient cycling. The experts noted that natural farming eliminates the need for external fertilizers by stimulating soil microbes to avail nutrients.

Key innovations were presented, including Pre-Monsoon Dry Sowing (PMDS), the Any Time Money (ATM) model for small farmers, and the A-Grade model for diversified income generation. The speakers indicated that natural farming could significantly enhance soil health, improve water retention, and increase farmers’ income, while also serving as an alternative to detrimental practices like poppy cultivation.
Michael Suantak led the second session, which focused on “AI and ICT as Force Multipliers.” He demonstrated the use of AI tools, including the Eimi AI App for multilingual translation, plant identification, and digital learning. He stressed the role of artificial intelligence in education, agriculture, and administration, especially for tribal communities facing language barriers.

Helun Hangshing, Secretary of the Board of Management at Oasis College, concluded the seminar by acknowledging the contributions of the organizers, resource persons, and participants. He expressed hope that such initiatives would pave the way for sustainable agriculture and community development in Sadar Hills and beyond. Grace Touthang, a DMLT student, served as the compere, while Dr. Onkholun Haokip, Coordinator RDC, acted as the rapporteur in the seminar.
