Imphal: The Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University is organizing the first of its kind National Photo Exhibition titled ‘Deep Focus’ on December 19 and 20, 2022 at Mass Communication Department in Manipur University, Canchipur.
The inaugural program of the exhibition will be graced by renowned filmmaker Mayanglambam Romi Meitei as Chief Guest.
Photographers, photo enthusiasts from West Bengal, Punjab, Assam, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Nagaland, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim and Manipur submitted more than 200 photos. The submitted photos are curated and selected for the exhibition by panel of jury consisting of Farhan Hussain, a Mumbai based photographer, Swati Bandi, an art critic and scholar from Bangalore and Johnson Rajkumar, faculty Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University.
As mentioned in the press release “Deep Focus” is initiated by the students of Mass Communication. Focusing on the history of Manipur, the exhibition will act as an archive through the timeline of Manipur back in the days.
Photographs dating back to almost a century will be exhibited. The event is not a mere photo exhibition but an exhibition of lifestyle followed during 60s, 70s and years before that. Varieties of vintage cameras, vintage photo printing equipment that were in use before the digital age will be at display.
This national level exhibition, with entries from across the country, will give a platform for both the professional and enthusiast photographers to display their work. It will provide a space beyond digital for the creators to showcase their photography and deliver their message. Exhibition of photos, Curation of Vintage Photographs, Workshop or talk and On-Spot Photography competition will be some of the highlight of the exhibition.

The department welcomes everyone who would like to take takeaway trip down the memory lane and experience vintage photography at its best. The department also invites everyone including student community across the state to attend and witness the exhibition.
