Gunfight in Thoubal: One Killed, Six Arrested, Weapons Seized

Ukhrul: The Thoubal District Police and security officials under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops) H. Devendra Singh carried out a successful operation on Saturday morning and apprehended seven armed miscreants in Salungpham Maning Leikai.

It was learned that based on reliable intelligence about the presence of armed individuals in the area, the operation involved teams led by Officer-In-Charge/CDO-Thoubal and a mobile unit of Golf-35 headed by HC Raghumani Singh.

According to the police statement, at around 10:40 AM, the police intercepted two suspicious vehicles, a blue Alto car without a registration number and a red A-Star ZXi bearing registration number MN-06LB-8805, moving towards Wangjing. When signalled to stop for verification, the vehicles sped away and opened fire at the police team. The police fired warning shots in response and after a brief chase of about 30 meters, the vehicles were stopped. Seven armed individuals got out of the cars and resisted but the police swiftly overpowered them.

Meanwhile, one of the miscreants identified as Laishram Prem also known as Loktak Singh (18) of Thoubal Khunou sustained a bullet injury during the operation. He was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries, a police official told to Ukhrul Times. The other six were taken to Lilong Police Station. They were identified as Thokchom Momocha also known as Sunny (41) of Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai, Sarangthem Anand Singh also known as Malem (36) of Kakching Khunou Tampakmayum Lai Leikai, Ningthoujam Karna Singh also known as Pishak (27) of Samaram Mapi Leikai Maning Laibung, Ningthoujam Manoranjan Singh also known as Khagemba (21) of Thinungai Kha Leikai, Thongam Phalguni also known as Urikpa (27) of Lamphel Sanakeithel, and Moirangthem Johnson also known as Thouna (21) of Lamphel Kombirei.

The police seized a large cache of arms and ammunition, including an INSAS Rifle 5.56 mm with serial number 18406998 (RFI-2012), an AMOGH Rifle 5.56 mm with serial number AA13311N (SF-2011), an SLR Rifle 7.62 mm with serial number 18057905 (OFTIN-2007), and a 303 Rifle M1944 with serial number BS19343.

They also confiscated two vehicles which were a red A-Star ZXi with registration number MN-06LB-8805 and a blue Alto car without a registration number. Six mobile handsets were also recovered which included a black POCO handset, a light green Redmi 5G handset, a light blue Redmi 5G model 2312DRAABI, another Redmi handset, an itel keypad handset, and a Nokia keypad handset.
