Ukhrul: The new positive wave of Vocal for Local initiative for Friday market and SBI Ukhrul organised a Financial Literacy cum Credit Camp for MSME at Ava Market, Phungreitang, Ukhrul on November 25 at 11 am.

Dr. Meitram Uttam Luwang, SBI Branch Manager Ukhrul, Themreiyo T Awungshi, General Manager DIC Ukhrul and N. Khogendra Singh, Designated Officer Ukhrul and Kamjong FSSAI were the speakers.

Around 150 people turned up at the event that included local entrepreneurs, street vendors, farmers, and interested individuals.

Mashungmi Zingkhai, Convener, Vocal for Local welcomed and introduced the speakers.

Dr Luwang gave a thorough explanation of the various loans available in the bank and online applications. He encouraged the entrepreneurs in the food and beverage venture to get FSSAI numbers.
“Products in Ukhrul are organic by default,” he said. “By next year, Ukhrul can be declared the Organic hub of Manipur and also the summer capital of the state”.

While talking about various schemes and funds, Themreiyo T Awungshi said that 17 various schemes were launched by the former DC Joseph Pauline but till now none have approached him.

He also mentioned there are thousands of applicants online but after applying they have to visit the office individually to get their documents verified which no one is doing. And due to lack of staff, it is impossible for him to call all the applicants personally.

Vocal for Local and SBI meet

N Khogendra Singh informed the guest about food licensing. He said that anyone whose work is related to food should have a license. There is a penalty of avenues to obtain the same for those who don’t own one, he added.

N Singh also said that the license costs Rs 100 year and will be renewed every year.

To be able to export products, we need a license, he informed.

Proprietor of Zingan food, Pemichon Tungshang shared her experience and stories as an entrepreneur. She informed the benefits of maintaining and building good relationships with banks. “To be able to build a business we need to have proper documents, GST and Income tax filing etc.,” she said.

Lemyao Co-convener concluded the program with a vote of thanks.

Services like free SBI account opening on the spot and pension were provided.
