CHURACHANDPUR: A 13-hour total shutdown called by Zomi frontal organisations, including ZYA, ZCA, ZSF, CVDF, and ZMA was fully observed across Churachandpur district today. The shutdown began at 5:00 AM and concluded at 6:00 PM.
The protest was organised in response to what the groups termed as “continued injustice” in the case of Late Vungzagin Valte, MLA of 56-Thanlon Assembly Constituency. Valte succumbed to his injuries in Delhi on February 21, 2024, following a brutal attack on May 4, 2023, when he was returning from a meeting with then Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. At the time, Valte also served as an Advisor to the Chief Minister.

The Zomi, Kuki, and Hmar groups have been demanding justice and accountability in connection with the attack.
The shutdown was total across Churachandpur district, extending up to the buffer zones along the Mizoram border. All shops and business establishments remained closed, including in Churachandpur town.
Vehicular movement came to a complete halt, with no commuters seen on inter-village roads, state highways, or National Highways. The only exception was the operation of ambulances, which were stationed at key intersections to attend to medical emergencies.
