Ukhrul: Upon Hopingson A Shimray’s resignation from the post of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) presidency, vacating the post on August 31 and the subsequent approval of the incumbent president’s resignation on October 12 by TNL, the chair of the Tangkhul apex organisation was lying vacant for over three months.

In the ensuing election to fill the post of TNL president held on Thursday, David K Shimray has emerged as the 41st president of the Tangkhul Naga Long in an election held at its office in Ukhrul headquarters.

The newly elected TNL president secured 354 votes beating his only rival Ngamreishang Tuikhar from Khangkhui village who received 132 votes out of the 486 total vote share.

TNL president incharge, Tuisem Kamkara expressed his gratitude to the Election Commission for the successful and peaceful election held on Thursday.

The certificate of TNL election was pronounced in a solemn declaration by the EC certifying David K Shimray’s presidency for a term of four years, effective from December 9, 2021.

The 41st TNL president was accorded a traditional march after the polling and declaration from TNL office near Sahim to his residence at Viewland zone I.

David K Shimray, the 72-year-old from Chingai village is a veteran politician. He had contested from 45-Chingai (ST) AC in the past decades more than once.
