AGARTALA: The eight states of Northeast India could soon see deeper economic ties with Europe, as a delegation of EU ambassadors and business leaders arrives in Guwahati this Sunday for two days of talks with Assam’s government and industry stakeholders under the “Team Europe” initiative.
The visit, scheduled for June 8 and 9, will focus on sectors where Europe and Northeast India share strong potential, including renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavours and fragrances, and AYUSH.
The delegation will be led by Hervé Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India and Bhutan, and will include ambassadors and senior representatives from EU member states alongside business leaders from the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI).
During the visit, the Team Europe ambassadors will hold a bilateral meeting with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, while the business delegation will separately engage with state officials to identify trade and investment opportunities.

On June 9, the delegation will participate in the “Blue Valleys: Building Ecosystems and Value Chains between India and Europe” workshop organised by the Assam government, bringing together European and Indian businesses to explore partnerships in sustainable industries and innovation.
A major highlight of the visit will be the launch of Assam’s first Blue Valley Cluster, a public-private-people-partnership industrial hub focused on fragrances, flavours, AYUSH, and food processing, aimed at connecting Europe, Northeast India, and Bhutan.
Ambassador Delphin said Northeast India and Assam held enormous potential. “Through initiatives like Blue Valleys, we are not just discussing cooperation, we are building real, long-term business-to-business partnerships that will drive growth for both the EU and India,” he said.
The delegation will also visit Tata Electronics’ new semiconductor plant, highlighting Assam’s growing role in high-tech manufacturing and the importance of the EU-India digital partnership under the Trade and Technology Council.
