BISHNUPUR: The Indian Army medical team at Bishnupur Camp, provided timely emergency medical assistance to a 63-year-old civilian following a suspected cobra bite sustained while working in a farm on Tuesday.
The patient, identified as Leisangtham Bimeshwar, a resident of Ward No. 3, Bishnupur, reportedly suffered the snake bite at approximately 4:30 PM while harvesting crops in his field. Despite the incident, he continued working and later reported to the Medical Aid Post at around 7:50 PM after developing pain and progressive swelling of his right hand and forearm.
According to the patient, the snake was black in colour and raised its hood before striking. On examination, a visible fang mark was noted at the base of the right thumb, along with early swelling of the affected limb.
The medical team immediately initiated first aid measures, including wound cleansing, limb splinting, administration of anti-tetanus prophylaxis, oxygen support, intravenous fluids, and close clinical monitoring. The patient’s vital parameters remained stable throughout the treatment.

Recognising the potential severity of the envenomation, the RMO, Indian Army promptly coordinated with the Casualty Medical Officer of District Hospital, Bishnupur, and arranged immediate evacuation of the patient at 8:45 PM for advanced management.
The patient was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of District Hospital, Bishnupur, at 9:10 PM, where he continues to receive specialist care.
