UKHRUL: Kuki civil society organisations (CSOs) have withdrawn the 48-hour ultimatum served to the district administration, along with the proposed boycott and non-cooperation, following an alleged firing incident at PC Nursing Home.

In a joint press statement issued on Tuesday, the Kuki CSOs said the decision was taken at a meeting held at the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur (KIC) office, where the superintendent of police, Churachandpur, appeared and apologised for the firing incident.

The CSOs also acknowledged the prompt response of the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Churachandpur, in addressing the incident.

However, the CSOs announced a protest rally on August 21 against what they described as the “bias and selective actions” of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against the Kuki-Zo community.

The rally, announced at the direction of the Kuki Inpi Manipur, is intended to express what the organisations described as the “pain, anguish and concern” of the Kuki-Zo community over the NIA’s actions.

The CSOs alleged that the NIA had applied the law and investigative measures unequally, claiming that allegations and incidents involving other communities received comparatively limited attention while the agency had adopted an aggressive approach towards the Kuki-Zo community.

The Kuki civil bodies appealed to all sections of society to participate in the rally peacefully and in large numbers. They also urged participants to exercise restraint, maintain discipline and uphold the rule of law throughout the programme.

The joint statement was signed by Letpu Haokip, president, Kuki Inpi Churachandpur; Letkam Haokip, chairman, Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Churachandpur; Lenminal Gangte, president, Kuki Students’ Organisation; Ngamhao Haokip, president, Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi, GHQ; Hathkolam Haokip, president, Kuki Women Union; and Ngaineikim Haokip, president, Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, GHQ.
