Kohima, April 15: In a proud moment for Nagaland’s nursing fraternity, Longshibeni K. Patton was conferred the 22nd Lt. Mrs. Ketsovole Kire Award during the Convocation Ceremony of the School of Nursing, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), held at the NHAK Auditorium.

The award, established in 2002 by the family of the late Ketsovole Kire to recognize academic excellence among General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) students, was presented by Dr. Mereninla Senlem, Principal Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

In her address, Dr. Senlem thanked the Kire family for their continued contribution to nurturing nursing excellence.

She emphasized the vital role nurses play in the healthcare system, describing them as “the backbone of the medical profession.” She highlighted the increasing demand for North East nurses abroad due to their exemplary soft skills and compassion.

Touching on the growing importance of digital skills, Dr. Senlem urged curriculum upgrades to incorporate IT-based healthcare technologies, ensuring that nursing professionals remain equipped for the evolving landscape of modern medicine.

The event commenced with a prayer and Bible reading by Chaplain Vikepu Tepa, followed by a welcome address from S. Tiakala Longkumer, Principal of the School of Nursing, NHAK. A melodic performance by 2nd-year GNM students added a festive note to the celebration.

Dr. M. Margaret Yhome, Managing Director of NHAK, delivered an exhortation encouraging the graduates to pursue their calling with integrity and excellence.

On behalf of the Kire family, K. Kire, IPS (Retd.) and former DGP, shared moving reflections on his mother’s legacy and inspired the students to serve with diligence and heart.

A standout moment was a soulful rendition of “Never Enough” by Kilangbenla, 1st Year GNM.

The Nurses’ Pledge was led by Khoshelu K. Khamo, Nursing Tutor, and Kepelhoutseiu Suohu, Joint Director of Nursing, who oversaw the presentation of certificates. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Loino V. Yeptho.
