UKHRUL: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) has alleged the state government of neglecting tribal departments and institutions reiterating its concerns over the prolonged non-conduct of recruitment to various vacant posts in the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, Tribal Research Institute (TRI), and Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, TYCM stated that the state government lacks interest in the development of the tribal communities of Manipur and has no sincere intention to uplift the tribal communities of the state.

“During the current volatile and disrupted situation in Manipur, the Government of Manipur has been conducting both fresh and pending recruitment processes for several other departments. However, the Government of Manipur has not taken up recruitment for filling up the vacant posts in the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, Tribal Research Institute (TRI), and Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC), TYCM said in its statement.

It further highlighted the shortage of manpower in the various tribal departments/institutions in the state which has affected and delayed the implementation of developmental programmes and impeded the overall developmental progress of the tribal communities.

According to TYCM, of the sanctioned strength of 138 staff/employees in the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department has a sanctioned strength of 138 staff/employees only 38 are currently in position while 100 posts remain vacant till date.

The Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Manipur has a sanctioned strength of 33 staff/employees; however, only 13 are currently in position, and 20 posts remain vacant till date. The Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC) has a sanctioned strength of 108 staff/employees; however, only 92 are currently in position, and 68 posts remain vacant till date,” it added.

It also alleged that the state government’s slogan of bringing equal development for both the valley and hills has become “meaningless” and merely a mouthpiece.

The TYCM maintained that it has persistently appealed to the Government of Manipur to initiate recruitment for filling up the vacant posts in the said Departments/Institutions prior to the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. “Unfortunately, the Government of Manipur has failed to translate the said demand into concrete action till date,” it stated, while adding that the council submitted a representation to the Chief Minister yet again on June 23, urging the government to expeditiously conduct recruitment to fill the vacant posts in the said Departments/Institutions.

It appealed to the state government to address the grievances and acknowledge the sentiments of the tribal communities of Manipur and avoid any further growth of resentment by the tribal people, and not to invite public agitation during the current prevailing situation in the state.
