KAMJONG: Two Kuki youths from Myanmar (Burma) were caught in connection with a series of robberies at Huimin Thana, a border village along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur on Saturday.

Huimin Thana is a strategic Indian border village situated near International Border Pillar No. 102 in Manipur’s Kamjong District, an area that has seen an influx of displaced Burmese nationals due to the ongoing volatile situation across the border.

According to sources, the residence of Danny Chithung in Huimin Thana village was reportedly broken into and ransacked multiple times by individuals identified as Kuki nationals from Myanmar crossing over the international border. The accused are identified as Lepkhohao Haokip (38), S/o Thanglein Haokip of Monjang village, and Thanglinlal Haokip (37), S/o Letmang Haokip of Myothit village.

Speaking bitterly on the incident and the security landscape of the region, the victim, Danny Chithung, openly questioned the claims made by state authorities regarding border security.

“I condemn the recent statement by the Manipur Home Minister who said that there is no foreign aggression. We can clearly see it from this incident,” Chithung stated, pointing to the continuous break-ins as a direct consequence of unchecked cross-border infiltration.
