Mizoram receives National Award for Disability Empowerment

UKHRUL: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in New Delhi on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Mizoram’s Lunglei District received the 2025 National Award in the ‘Best District’ category for its exemplary implementation of the Accessible India Campaign and its efforts to create a barrier-free environment.

Under Project LEAP, a house-to-house disability survey identified over 1,400 beneficiaries, with health camps benefiting 1,091 persons and facilitating UDID cards.

In June 2025, aids and assistive devices worth ₹52 lakh were distributed to 740 beneficiaries.

Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann accepted the award on behalf of the district.
