UKHRUL: Naga Students’ Union Bangalore (NSUB) along with the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union, Bengaluru (ENSUB) organized a blood donation drive in collaboration with Bangalore Baptist Hospital on March 21.

The drive saw people from different walks of life coming forward with one intention to help save lives.

Stating that the Bangalore Baptist Hospital has always been there for the Naga community, the students’ unions said the initiative was a small way of saying “thank you” and giving back to the hospital.

“Many of our Naga brothers and sisters, even those who come from outside Bangalore for treatment, have received care and support, including concessions. This initiative was a small way of saying thank you and giving back,” a statement read.

Speaking on the occasion, NSUB president Nungsangmongla Ozukum shared, “We are truly grateful to everyone who came forward. This is what community and compassion look like, and a unit of blood donated today may give years of life to another patient.”

ENSUB president Loungtok Konyak also mentioned “This marks an important beginning in building a strong relationship with Bangalore Baptist Hospital. We hope this collaboration will pave the way for better access to quality healthcare for the Naga community in Bangalore.”

Why Save the Bats?

International Bat Appreciation Day is observed on April 17 to appreciate the wonderful flying mammals which we often ignore and to recognise the important role they play in our environment. Bats are vital to the health of our natural world and economy. However, today, bats worldwide face numerous threats and the destruction of their natural habitats, including caves and old trees. These ignored keystone species are facing a multitude of threats, including pesticide use, destruction of roost sites, over-harvesting for bush meat, climate change, and much more, putting them on the brink of extinction. Mining and irresponsible tourism have also caused a substantial decrease in their population, contributing to the overall decline of bat species and disrupting their ecological roles in various ecosystems.
