UKHRUL: Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the remaining six abducted Nagas.
Condemning the abduction of indigenous Naga hostages from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur on 13 May, 2026 near Leimakhong Army centre with strong suspicions to Suspension of Operation (500) group, Kuki National Front (KNF-P), NWU demanded immediate abrogation of the SoO agreement with the militant group “responsible” in the act.

It raised doubts over the security failure in the Leimakhong region, where the abduction occurred in close proximity to major security establishments, including the 57 Mountain Division, CRPF camp, approximately half mile from Leilon Vaiphei village, Gorkha Regiment gate and presence, and Assam Rifles makeshifts and their deployments in surrounding areas.
“The inability to prevent such a grave incident despite heavy security presence raises urgent questions regarding civilian protection and accountability,’ NWU stated.

It added that Leilon Vaiphei village and Leimakhong areas have become hotspots of terror activities since the outbreak of the conflict in May, 2023 with many reported incidents that have drawn national attention and unreported gruesome incidents causing fear and insecurity among Naga innocent civilians.
The Naga Women’s Union called on the Manipur and central governments to find the abducted Naga civilians and bring home the innocent hostages without any harm.
“Till today, the fate and whereabouts of six remaining abducted Nagas, out of 18 hostages of women and a child, including Dr. Rev. Manu, Pastor; Pastor Kenpibou; Dilip Thiumai; Kaliwangbou; Phenrongwibou Thiumai; and Ch. Phenrilungbou remains unknown. Now, the unlawful captivity of innocent persons is deeply affecting the families, community and the whole Nagas. We demand their immediate release without any harm,” NWU said in its statement.

It demanded the concerned authority to arrest and book the culprits, while also demanding that the SoO agreement with the militant group “involved in the act” should be revoked.
Demanding the immediate rescue and safe return of the remaining six abducted Nagas, the Naga Women’s Union urged the authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the hostage-taking incident, book all militants, accomplices, and abettors involved under appropriate laws, deliver swift and befitting justice to all victims of hostages, affected by these acts of terror for the return of women hostages.
The union reiterated that no armed group or individual should be allowed to undermine human dignity, civilian safety, and the rule of law through violence and terror.
