Poumai Naga Union and Frontal Orgs Extend Solidarity to Fire Victims in Lower Koide Village

Senapati, Feb 5: Poumai Naga Union (PNU) and other Frontal Organizations extended their solidarity and support to fire victims at Lower Koide Village in Senapati district that occurred on February 3 night.

The delegation from the Poumai Naga Union (PNU), led by its President, RB Pani, accompanied by officials from PNU’s frontal organizations, the Poumai Naotumai Me (PNM) and Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM), visited Lower Koide Village on Wednesday to express solidarity with the ill fated family of Th. Danii, whose house was completely gutted in a devastating fire in the early hours of February 3, 2025.

The fire, which broke out at approximately 1:30 AM, reduced the family’s home and all their belongings to ashes, causing an estimated loss of property worth around 60 lakhs. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the family was unable to salvage anything as the incident occurred during the night when the villagers were in deep slumber.

Tragically, the family’s youngest son, D. Rahavei, a Class 10 student at Naga Public School, succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident. He was rushed to the District Hospital, Senapati and later referred to RIMS, where he was declared dead. The loss of such a young and promising life has left the family and the entire community in profound grief.

During the visit, the PNU delegation expressed their deep shock and sorrow over the incident. President RB Pani described the situation as “heart-wrenching and unimaginable” stating, “Nothing hurts me more than this incident, which has not only destroyed the family’s life savings and endeavors but has also taken the precious life of a young, bright soul. This is a moment of immense grief for our community, and I appeal to all concerned citizens to stand in solidarity with the affected family during this difficult time.”

The officials also prayed for the speedy recovery of Serou, wife of Th. Danii, who displayed immense courage during the tragedy. Despite being badly injured and burnt, the mother bravely attempted to save her son, Rahavei, by breaking through the flames. Her selfless act of bravery in the face of such danger has left the community in awe. The PNU delegation expressed their heartfelt wishes for her swift and complete recovery.

Ng Joseph, Vice-President of the Poumai Naga Union further urged the community to come together in prayer and support for the bereaved family. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to prevent such tragedies in the future, stating the Office of the Poumai Naga Union prays that such incidents never occur again in the land.

Delilah Pao, President, Poumai Naotumai Me (PNM), also expressed her profound grief over the incident. “As a mother, I can feel the pain and anguish of the family. It is heartbreaking to see their home reduced to ashes and to witness the loss of a young life. We stand with the family in this hour of need and assure them of every possible assistance,” she said.

The officials also commended the swift response of the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati Mamoni Doley, IAS, and S Lunguiba Thangal, MCS, SDO/BDO Purul, who assured the family of all possible support. The officials expressed gratitude to Elizabeth Dziizii, Vice-President, Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), for accompanying the delegation and showing their solidarity and support.

Furthermore, Dalounii Angam, President, Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM), and L Pule, President, Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me – Lepaona, also conveyed their deep sadness over the tragic incident. They expressed their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and assured them that the Poumai community stand united in their support. Both leaders emphasized the importance of community resilience and collective assistance to help the affected family recover and rebuild.

The Poumai Naga Union and its frontal organizations have pledged to extend all necessary help to the affected family as they rebuild their lives. The officials called upon the community to unite in providing emotional, financial, and material support to the family during this challenging time.

The PNU delegation concluded their visit by offering prayers for the departed soul, expressing hope that the family finds strength and solace in the midst of their grief.
