Senapati: The United Naga Council (UNC) said it is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden demise of A.K Lungalang, Member of Collective Leadership of the NSCN-IM on May 13 evening in Dimapur.

According to the UNC condolence message, AK Lungalang was a veteran and an octogenarian Naga national leader, who served the Naga nation till his last breath. “He held various cabinet posts and actively participated in the peace talks under the leaderships of Late Isak Chishi Swu and Th. Muivah, as they were comrades in arms for the Naga nation building,” the UNC also said.

“He was indeed a staunch Naga nationalist who gave his all and fought to free the Nagas from the yoke of the alien occupation and domination in the Nagalim territory and to politically emancipate the Nagas from India and Myanmar was his dream,” the UNC added.

The Naga body then said that AK Lungalang’s death at this critical juncture is unexpected. The UNC further said that the Naga people will miss him in the rest of “our journey”. The UNC added that it joined with the bereaved family members, relatives, friends and well wishers in sharing the loss and vacuum “that is to be left upon all of us. May the good Lord rest him in eternal peace”.
