CHURACHANDPUR: Vision Lamka (VL), a registered society founded on July 4, 2019 by committed citizens of Lamka (Churachandpur), Manipur, organised a half-day workshop on the theme “Think Global, Act Local” on April 25 at New Delhi. The event highlighted the organisation’s response to the Government of India’s Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.

The workshop featured prominent resource persons, including Vumlunmang Vualnam, IAS, Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance; Dr John Samuel, former Chief Postmaster General and member of the Postal Services Board; and N. Neihsial, Chairman of Vision Lamka and former CGDA, Government of India.

The programme saw participation from a diverse group comprising youth and students who were described as the future architects of a “Viksit Lamka”, alongside professionals and entrepreneurs from both public and private sectors, mission and social workers, civil society representatives, serving and retired government officials, community faith leaders, and well-wishers.

Organisers noted that even before the Government of India formally launched the Viksit Bharat @2047 initiative and the “Voice of Youth” programme in December 2023, Vision Lamka had already begun deliberations on transforming Lamka through organised civic action. The organisation, they said, was founded on a shared conviction that Lamka, one of Manipur’s oldest hill towns and home to Zo ethnic communities can evolve into an ideal place to live, work, and grow.

The Viksit Bharat @2047 vision aims to transform India into a fully developed nation by the centenary of its independence. It is anchored on pillars such as economic growth, social progress, sustainability, and good governance, with aspirations of achieving a $30–40 trillion economy while improving living standards and empowering key sections of society, including youth, farmers, women, and the underprivileged. The vision calls for collective participation from citizens and institutions alike.

During the workshop, Dr John Samuel, in his keynote address, spoke on the transformative potential of nation-building through social advancement and community ownership. Vumlunmang Vualnam elaborated on the structural pillars of Viksit Bharat @2047, explaining how the “Think Global, Act Local” approach can be applied in the context of Lamka. N. Neihsial traced the journey of Vision Lamka and positioned its initiatives within the broader national development framework.

The workshop aimed to build a shared understanding of the Viksit Bharat @2047 framework among participants while encouraging the articulation of a community-driven vision for Lamka. It also sought to initiate the preparation of a participatory development roadmap for the town across key sectors and to strengthen both individual and collective commitment to purposeful civic action.
