Aizawl: The Mizo Students’ Union (MSU), a prominent student body in Mizoram, has warned of Meitei community’s expulsion from the state in case of any Kuki-Zo people from Manipur deported to Mizoram.

The latest development comes after a week following Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh informed about the government’s intention to identify and deport those who settled in the state after 1961.

The MSU on Tuesday cautioned the N Biren Singh-led Manipur government that if they proceed with the declaration and deport any Mizo or Kuki-Zo people to Mizoram, residents of Meitei in the state would also face deportation to neighbouring state Manipur.

The student body also mentioned that they have compiled a comprehensive list of all Meitei individuals residing in Mizoram.

It may be noted that Manipur CM N Biren Singh had earlier said that those who entered and settled in the state after 1961, irrespective of caste and communities, would be identified and deported.

CM Biren also attributed the ongoing unrest in Manipur for months to the drug mafias and illegal immigrants, particularly from neighbouring country Myanmar.
