Ukhrul: Pettigrew college, Ukhrul began its 54th annual games and sports cum literary meet 2022 on Monday at its campus under the theme “Ever Forward.”
Post oath taking announced by the games and sports secretary, MLA Ram Muivah who graced the inaugural function as chief guest kicked off the week-long sporting event in the presence of Chunglenmang Kipgen, ADC Ukhrul, Additional SP, Ukhrul, invitees and faculties.
Four houses namely Machester United, Real Madrid, PSG and Barcelona would compete in various outdoor, indoor, literary and individual games.

Acknowledging the laurels brought to the college by two of its students who participated in the recently concluded all Manipur inter-college best physique championships 2022 held at Standard college, Imphal,
the college felicitated Paotam Vashum and Wungreithei Lungharwo who bagged bronze medal in 65 kg and 70 kg in open categories.
Remarkably the college was also adjudged team runner-up in the event.

As part of the inaugural match lined-up, PSG won Manchester United house in men’s volleyball while Barcelona house won Real Madrid. With the win, PSG and Barcelona will face-off in the final.
In the women’s volleyball match, Barcelona won Machester United while Real Madrid won PSG.
Addressing the public, Chunglenmang Kipgen, ADC Ukhrul, who graced the event as guest of honour thanked the college for inviting him to be part of this exciting sporting event.

Making a clarion call on the students to take proper care of their health, he advised them to treasure health as health is wealth. “Don’t indulgence in drugs and alcohol and be in the company of good people.
Don’t just study but study with specific aims. Once you know what you want to become after your studies, stick to that, he exhorted.
Kipgen, who his also an avid sports and music lover further advised them to respect their teachers and parents emphasizing that they are the one who mould and shape them.
As part of the event, students exhibited folk dance.
KAS Soreishang, principal, Pettigrew college said that annual games and sports meet was a routine affair and tradition for the college since its inception. He then exhorted students to take part in the event with team spirit and discipline.
Dr Gaikhaunlung Ngaomei, assistant professor, Pettigrew college, who is also the games and sports teacher in-charge heartily welcomed and expressed his immense gratitude to MLA Ram Muivah, ADM Ukhrul Chunglenmang, college principal for consenting to graced the occasion as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president amid their tight scheduled.
Established in 1965, the college at present had 41 teaching and 6 non-teaching staffs and 800 plus students.
The event will conclude on 3 December.
