UKHRUL: Manipur erupted in protests on Sunday following the deaths of two minor children in the Tronglaobi projectile attack and the killing of three civilians during mob violence in Bishnupur district.

Protesters rallied across Imphal and Thoubal, with hundreds marching along the roads and chanting slogans demanding justice. Demonstrators also staged a blockade at Nongada along the Imphal–Ukhrul road in the Lamlai Assembly constituency, disrupting vehicular movement.

The protests follow the tragic mortar attack by suspected Kuki militants at Moirang Tronglaobi on April 7, which claimed the lives of two minor children. Oinam Binita, the mother of the victims who sustained multiple injuries in the incident, recounted the events of that night. She stated that her husband, a personnel of the Border Security Force, was on duty in Bihar at the time. Questioning the presence of security forces in the area, she said she had believed they would ensure her family’s safety. Binita has vowed to seek justice until those responsible are brought to account.

Representatives of the Meira Paibi also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand, highlighting concerns over the recent surge in violence. During the meeting, NewsonAir reported that the Chief Minister assured that justice would be delivered. He stated that the law would take its course following a fair and thorough investigation, and that those found guilty would face strict action. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the rule of law, as well as peace and stability in the state.
