AGARTALA: The very officers who seized narcotic cough syrup from traffickers in Teliamura on May 20 are now behind bars themselves, with four police personnel from the station dismissed from service and arrested on Monday on charges of secretly diverting part of the contraband and failing to account for the full seized consignment.
Acting on the orders of Director General of Police Anurag Dhankhar, Teliamura Police Station arrested Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Reang, Women Sub-Inspector Sampa Das, and Assistant Sub-inspector Sachindra Debbarma. All 4 have also been departmentally dismissed.
According to police, on May 20 the accused personnel intercepted a white Eco vehicle in Teliamura and seized Eskuf cough syrup. However, a subsequent review of CCTV footage from Teliamura Police Station revealed that some bottles were removed from the General Diary room before the consignment was formally seized and documented.

However, preliminary examination of the footage showed that the accused dishonestly removed approximately 245 bottles of 100ml Escof syrup and did not account for the complete seized consignment.
A case bearing number 025/2026, dated May 24, 2026, was registered at Teliamura Police Station under Sections 305, 306, 316(5), and 61 of the BNS, and Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. The complaint was filed by Additional Superintendent of Police Justin Joseph. The investigation has been entrusted to the Crime Branch Anti-Narcotics unit for a neutral probe.
On Monday, all 4 accused were produced before the Khowai District and Sessions Court, which remanded them to 5 days of police custody.
