Senapati, 28 May: Continuous rainfall that began on Monday night and continued until Tuesday afternoon has submerged many residential houses near rivers and streams within the district headquarters. The Senapati river, which flows through the district headquarters, is flowing above the danger level and is likely to submerge more residential houses if the rain continues. The river water is flowing above the retaining walls constructed beside the river.
Although strong winds were not witnessed in the district headquarters during the filing of this report, sources from the hills reports that strong winds accompanied by rain were experienced just before noon. Reports are coming in from various places that trees and electric poles have been uprooted, and roads are blocked due to landslides in several areas in Ukhrul district.

River water overflowed onto one bridge leading to Viewland Colony, Senapati. Reports of mudslides blocking roads leading to different colonies within the district headquarters, including portions of the NH, are coming in. A wooden bridge leading to New Eden and Namgailong villages from Vakho, New Karong was washed away by the strong current of the Senapati River on Tuesday evening. The narrow wooden bridge built over a decade ago through the assistance of the government, connecting the surrounding villages from Vakho, Karong and New Eden village in Senapati district served as a critical lifeline for many villages especially for students to cross over to attend schools and colleges.
The district administration has identified three relief camps for those affected by the floods in the district headquarters. Meanwhile, the Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati has been visiting colonies and distributing relief materials to affected families.
