Senapati: The Senapati District Student’s Association (SDSA) in a strong statement has slammed the Manipur Government for failing to fulfill its assurance even after repeated reminders and appeals.

While endorsing the genuine demands placed by 3 main tribal students’ body – the All Tribal Students’ Union (ATSUM), Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) GHQ and the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), the SDSA urged the government of Manipur to implement the charter of demand submitted by the tribal bodies to the Manipur government on August 13, 2019.

SDSA also specifically mentioned the failure of the Education Minister to upgrade the Senapati Upper primary school to High school till date even after Cabinet approval on 17th December 2019 along with assurances and reminders were made from SDSA. With over 34 villages inhabiting the Senapati DHQ areas, there is not a single Government High school it said. The prolong negligence of the concerned department to address such vital issue of Senapati District is indeed “unfortunate & anti-people”, it stated.

Supporting its apex bodies demands, SDSA noted that, Government of Manipur has not been able to respect the grievance of the tribal populace and fulfill people’s cry to improve Education and Health sectors in Hill Districts of Manipur.

SDSA warned that, it will strongly root for the issues raised by the 3 tribal bodies and will join together in any form of democratic agitation called by the 3 student’s bodies after the deadline.

The demands for proper health care services and good education system are fundamental rights which cannot be denied to tribal communities, it concluded.
