United Front, Manipur (UFM) on Sunday expressed its concern over the “silence” maintained by the Government of India and other south Asian nations on the unrest situation in Myanmar following the crackdown against anti-juntas.
UFM is a conglomerate body of four political parties – Republican Party of India-A, Manipur State Committee; Democratic Bharatiya Samaj Party; Hindustan Janta Party, Manipur State and Akhil Bharatiya Hind Kranti Party (ABHKP).
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, the front condemned the United Nations for allegedly remaining as a silent spectator even as civilians including women and children were made to suffer to the limits of their woes as a result of military’s violent crackdowns in Myanmar.
UFM chairman Sapam Samugou alleged that powerful countries (India and south Asian countries) and the UN remaining silent is an act of cowardice. “The atrocities meted out by the military junta in the neighbouring country is against international law. “Even as many powerful countries condemned the atrocities committed by the military junta violence prevails in that country”, he also said.
“It is a very unfortunate thing and UFM strongly condemns the atrocities meted out by the military junta against the civilians,” he further said, and demanded for the immediate restoration of democracy in the neighbouring country.
