Ukhrul: The Indira Gandhi Hill Flower School, Mongkot Chepu, observed World Environment Day on June 5. On the occasion, the school faculty said that the students and faculty together planted 210 saplings in the school, symbolizing the total number of students of the school.
The saplings were provided by the Forest Beat Office, Litan and were planted on the school campus and along the roadside of Mongkot Chepu.
Principal Lh. Phelneichin Mercy Khongsai emphasized the significance of observing the day in shaping responsible and eco-conscious citizens. “By planting trees today, we are not only contributing to a greener environment but also instilling a sense of environmental stewardship in our students. We hope that this experience will inspire them to continue making positive choices for the planet in the future,” she said.
The school also took an active part in hosting the “World No Tobacco Day,” organized by the Indian Army on 31st May, 2024, to educate the students and parents about the harmful effects of tobacco use. The students did a poster-making and extempore speech competition while dental health and medical camps were also conducted by the Indian Army for the needy students and locals.
