Zeliangrong-Inpui Students’ Union Hosts 1st Debate Competition at DM College of Arts

Imphal: The Zeliangrong-Inpui Students’ Union, DM college of Arts DM College of Arts (ZLRP DMCA) in collaboration with Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM), successfully organized the 1st Debate Competition of 2024 on Wednesday. The event, held on the college campus, featured the topic “Government School vs Private Institution.”

The Jury members were, Dr. Paveine Taishya, Ph.D. Research Scholar, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Manipur University (MU), Chingalembi Devi, Research Scholar, Department of English and Cultural Studies, MU, and Dinkhuilung Thaimei, ZSUM Executive.

The competition saw the light of constructive feedback and discussion carried forward with talent show and short speeches. The participants hail from different colleges of Manipur and actively showed their enthusiasm in igniting the element of stage presence and knowledge delivery. The following are the list of winners and runners up of the competition:

  • 1st Runner-Up: Kaijonwangbou Thiumai, DM College of Commerce
  • 2nd Runner-Up: Kaniamlu Riamei, Savio English Higher Secondary School
  • Five consolation prizes were awarded to:
  • Chaksiliu Abonmai, DM College of Arts
  • Rajianchuiliu Pungringmei, DM College of Science
  • Gaibuanliu Kamei, GP Women College
  • Meibuankamliu Pamei, Modern College
  • Bezaleel Riamroi, DM College of Arts
  • The winners received the following awards:
  • Winner: ₹7,000 cash prize and a certificate
  • 1st Runner-Up: ₹4,000 cash prize and a certificate
  • 2nd Runner-Up: ₹2,000 cash prize and a certificate
  • Consolation Prizes: ₹500 cash prize and a certificate each

The second session featured a felicitation program honoring the students who won the debate competition. The program was graced by the chief guest, Ma’am Soihiamlu Palmei, Deputy Director, Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts, and Senior Finance Officer, Ayush, Government of Manipur. The guest of honor was Martha Gonmei, Project Manager, Bosco Mangal, Chingmeirong Don Bosco Imphal, and Peter Panmei, Public Relations Secretary of ZSUM, who served as the Convenor of the Debate Competition.

The speakers lauded the importance of organizing literary competitions for students. The first-ever debate competition set a benchmark for future literary events to engage and nourish the young minds of the Zeliangrong community. Encouraging the diverse talents among young students, the event featured guest singers from the Zeliangrong community, including Ding Pamei, a Rongmei singer/songwriter from Tamenglong, and Rose Malangmei, a Rongmei singer.

The program concluded on a celebratory note with tea, snacks, and prayers of thanksgiving, showing gratitude to all the dignitaries, jury members, participants, and attendees present.
