Kangpokpi Consultative Meet Resolves to Endorse ATSUM’s decision to boycott Go To Hills; To Stage Protest

A consultative meet held at Kangpokpi under the aegis of ATSUM decided to go ahead with the decision of ATSUM to boycott the government’s program ‘Go to Hills 2.0″ in Kangpokpi district.

The consultative meeting was attended by various civil society organizations including Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi, Kuki Students’ Organization Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills, Thadou Youth Association Kangpokpi, Zillai Kangpokpi, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Youth Union.

The meeting discussed the HAC recommended Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021, and adopted various declarations.

It resolved that the Manipur state government should convene a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to table the HAC recommended ADC Bill, 2021.

Secondly, it resolved that the reason for the withdrawal of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker’s orders is declared ‘unacceptable’ as it is not based on the “Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business” in the Manipur Legislative Assembly read writ Article 371(C).

Thirdly, it also resolved that the decision of ATSUM to boycott the state government’s program ‘Go to Hills 2.0’ is endorsed and the boycott movement will continue until the HAC recommended ADC Bill, 2021 is tabled and the Speaker’s order is withdrawn with appropriate reason.

The meeting also decided to stage a sit-in protest on the proposed day at the venue in case of the state government attempt to go ahead with the Go to Hills 2.0 program in Kangpokpi district.

All business establishments in the district shall be shut down on the proposed date of the program if the government goes ahead with its schedule while the meeting also appeals to all transporters to stay away from the road on the day.

It may be recalled that as per the scheduled program, the Go to Hill 2.0 program was scheduled on September 25 for the Kangpokpi district. However, it was reported that the scheduled program was rescheduled for September 29.
