Dimapur: The Naga Hoho has appealed to the Naga people to embrace peace and unity, setting aside differences and fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. In light of the “current environment of a broken society,” the Naga Hoho said it recognizes the urgency of addressing the situation and emphasizes that distrust and mutual suspicion are never the solutions. Naga Hoho also said the diverse opinions, demands, and issues within the Naga tribes should be approached through peaceful means, fostering dialogue and understanding among all sections of society. Naga Hoho then said it firmly believes that through peaceful means, “we can address differences, find common ground, and build a harmonious society.”

Naga Hoho then claimed that it had been actively engaged in fostering understanding, dialogue, and reconciliation, striving to create an atmosphere where diverse communities can coexist in harmony. “To find peace, brotherhood and unity must be the cornerstones. Only when we work together can we achieve our goal for peace. Durable solutions emanate from people who work together. This is not for us; it is for our children and the generations to come. This is the time to talk to each other, not about each other or against each other. Prove to all and sundry that with the available opportunities, and people we can make things happen. Show to the rest of the world that indeed, with the spirit of reconciliation, and forgiveness, we can make things easier to chart a better future for our Naga people,” Naga Hoho added.

According to Naga Hoho, the road to recovery and sustainable peace remains long and winding, as “we continue to face the challenges of trust deficit within our communities, exacerbated by repeated attempts by our enemy to dismantle the social fabric of the Naga community and torn us apart as a result of decades of violent, disunity, killing, and conflicts. These require us to think out of the box and solidify our convergence approach to inclusive development.” It added by saying, “We are still recovering from lost opportunities, eradicating prejudices and discrimination within our family and between our people, cultures and denominations so that we can foster healing and reconciliation.”

Naga Hoho also said it is meant to address the clamour for the right to determine our own socio-political-economic development. “Therefore, we must build mutual trust and continue to hope that we can overcome the various differences that divide us and work for the common good for the sake of our future.” It further said this is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and unity of purpose. “We pin our trust that we can pursue its tasks to complete the transitional process towards unity of purpose amongst the Naga people. The present Naga situation requires each bonafide Naga tribal body to overcome personal interests and find common grounds for collaboration. Only then can we claim at the end of the day that “we have led our people well.”

The combined wisdom of the tribal organizations and of those from the different sectoral representatives and apex Naga civil society organisations can make a difference in this extended transition of unity and brotherhood.

Naga Hoho also appealed to the Naga people and various ‘Naga political groups’ to come together and work for a common solution that is honourable and acceptable to all sections of Naga society and also to maintain unity and brotherhood to resolve the protracted Naga political issue with the government of India.

It also appealed to the government of India to understand and resolve the decades-old issue considering the sentiments and aspirations of the Nagas.

Naga Hoho further appealed to the government of India to initiate talks with the government of Myanmar to bring Nagas living in India and Myanmar together. Naga Hoho also appealed to all Nagas to the need for communal harmony amongst the various Naga tribes and communities, leaving aside differences and misunderstandings, and embracing one another, forgiving each other “in the name of the Almighty God for the sake of our children and posterity.”

It also appealed to the government to promote inclusive development so that no one is left behind, work towards building social cohesion, and inter-tribal unity and promote justice, tolerance and understanding towards healing, reconciliation and national unity.
